Running with Flat Feet

E-mail Print
Running with flat feet can be painful. The medial arch in the foot is supposed to lock when your weight is being transferred from your heel through to the ball of your foot. When your arch falls, this makes your running style less efficient. By engaging your arch muscle using a medical orthotic, running can become easier.  It also takes the strain away from muscles that work harder to overcome the loss of leverage that you would normally expect from a well-arched foot. An insole from a pharmacy can help. An orthotic will correct the arch fully.  Make an appointment with the Podiatrist for a foot assessment to see if your foot function can be improved. The Podiatrist will take a plaster cast of your feet to make a foot mould.  At the Dubai Podiatry Centre, the Podiatrist will make your orthotic in the orthotic laboratory housed in the Dubai Podiatry Clinic. The Podiatrist will also fit your orthotic to make sure it aligns your foot. Normally, you may be asked to return for follow ups, as the muscles work differently in your feet whilst wearing your orthotics. As the arch muscle engages, it lifts, and you should return for the Podiatrist to adjust your orthotic to fit your new foot shape better.
