Ian Bell England cricketer metatarsal fracture

E-mail Print
Ian Bell England cricketer injured his metatarsal bone in his left foot. It's highly likely that the extreme load through the forefoot whilst running has caused the second or third metatarsal bone to fatigue and break. Flat feet and a collapsed forefoot transverse arch are risk factors to promoting the chances of such an injury. To help prevent such an injury, it is important to support the transvere arch that runs across the front of the foot, just behind the toes. If the metatarsals are allowed to fall at the front of the foot, the fine necked second metatarsal becomes the longest metatarsal and becomes the last bone supporting body weight. It should normally be the first and fifth shorter, wider and stronger bones. Lifting the second, third and fourth metatarsals will help prevent such sporting injuries.
